THE BLACK |
When the filmmakers and JoeReyna started working on THE BLACK, they were also researching in the historical archives of the city and discovered that his grandmother Rosa Mendez not only owned a record store, but also ran a recording studio and the record label RCM in downtown back in the 60ties and 70ties. She had been a very influencial character in the musical scene in southern Texas and we can only imagine that it was not always easy back then, being an independent mexican-american woman. It is not just about making this movie anymore. Our mission is to establish a memorial venue that displays the record store and the recording studio to honor Rosa Mendez. We will work on making this place a historical site, which will create awareness of the musical heritage and encourage musicians to follow in her footsteps.
